  1. Budget Family Accommodations

HI planning a trip for 7 (mom, dad, & 5 boys – 18, 16, 14, 12, 8) looking at traveling as much as we can by train, bus or foot through Italy this summer. Great travelers. Any suggestions for budget housing? Looking at Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Tuscany but open to suggestions. Not open to renting a car. Thanks!

AirBnb has many good budget-friendly places that exist on the outskirts of those cities. You are rolling the dice a little but there are certainly plenty of family-friendly places to find as long as you’re not picky about location.

  2. One Day in Venice with Kids

We have 2 nights and 1 full day in Venice with 2 children (ages 10 and 14). We are happy to walk around and explore on our own but could you recommend one thing to do that everyone will enjoy. Perhaps a good tour???

I highly recommend the Free Walking Tour in Venice. It’s not really free – a donation is expected – but it does have great guides with wonderful stories of Venice’s history.

  3. Bisanzio Hotel with Kids

We are in Venice with our 2 kids in July. We have booked the quadruple room at the Bisanzio Hotel. Is this a good location? And does the quadruple have separate sleeping areas (i.e. a separate rooms for adults and children)?

Bisanzio has a great location right on a quieter canal (taxi boats can pull up very close to the hotel and take you straight to the airport or train station). It’s an easy walk to San Marco and lots of shops and restaurants. The quadruple is great for families. Every room has a different layout but the one we were in did have the 2 single beds in a different room from the adults’ room – but it did not have a door between the two rooms.

Here’s a photo (from our stay in July) of the quadruple family room at Bisanzio:
