What is the best website for booking hotels in Tokyo?
Tokyo.hotelscombined.com is the best website for finding hotel deals and discounts. It searches all the major websites and returns the best rates for all possible room types. It’s the only site I use.
What are the best neighborhoods in Tokyo?
Ikebukuro – Easy connections to the airport. Ikebukuro station has several lines that can get you to most of the city quickly and without a subway change. Not as crazy busy as Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Ginza – but still lots to see and do.
Iidabashi – My favorite. Close to everything but quiet and with a nice neighborhood feel. Good for families as there’s a pedestrian only street line with restaurants. Great in spring when the blossoms are out.
Shibuya – Home to Tokyo’s big department stores. If you came to Tokyo to experience big crowds, neon lights, and hip Japanese culture this is the place to base yourself.
Ginza – The best neighborhood for upscale shopping. Big brand stores and trendy boutiques. Close to Tokyo station if you’re taking the train somewhere outside the city or need to get to the airport.

Can you recommend completely smoke-free accommodations in Tokyo?
Your best bet is to find a Ryokan you like and then contact them to verify their smoking policy. A large hotel will be hit and miss and can have a huge variance with each room – even in a 5 star hotel.
