Family-Friendly Hotels In Paris

Update: September, 2012

This is one of our most popular posts – and with good reason. Finding a good hotel in Paris is tricky.

The best website to search for hotel discounts is HotelsCombined.com/Paris. It’s great.

As for the high season (June, July, August, and September) – generally the earlier you book the better the deal you’ll get.

Also, don’t worry too much about location when booking a hotel. The Paris metro is great and makes even hotels not centrally located not much of a hassle to get to and from.

Good luck.

Family Friendly Paris Hotels

Park Hyatt Paris – Vendome

The luxury hotel of Paris with few competitors. Exemplary service and features. Great restaurant and location. Obviously not for the budget oriented but worth the money if you want to splurge.

Four Seasons Hotel George V

The best of the best. For kids, for families, for anyone. Staff go out of their way to pamper children with everything they could dream of. The kids’ club is great and the hotel has a Recreation Manager for families, which is a fancy way of saying someone who’ll help you have an incredible stay in Paris.

Hotel Residence Foch

Close to the Air France shuttle from the airport. Cozy rooms, great and friendly service. Kids will enjoy the wide selection of croissants, breads and jams served with breakfast.

Royal Magda Etoile Hotel

Location, Location, Location. Within 2 blocks of the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees. A metro stop is very close too.  If your family really values its privacy then you might find the walls a little thin. A good quality breakfast is free for kids.

Hotel de Fleurie

The Fleurie has “family rooms” that are 2 connected rooms, each with its own bathroom. (Perfect if you have older kids, probably not so much for toddlers.) The location is hard to beat for this reasonably priced hotel.

Hotel Luxembourg Parc

Good value. Situated just opposite the Luxembourg Gardens kids will enjoy blowing off steam in the park and walking the neighborhood’s cobblestone streets. The breakfast is nothing spectacular but is often included in the price (so ask for it). The staff get raves for their friendliness and the rooms for being spotlessly clean.

Hotel des Grands Hommes

Maybe the best deal in Paris for vacationing families. Tucked away down a side street near the Pantheon the staff here are considered very family friendly. Breakfasts aren’t its strong point but with so many bakeries and cafes just outside the door this shouldn’t concern families too much. Enquire about their triple rooms if traveling with a large group. A short walk to several metro stations.

Hotel de l’Abbaye Saint-Germain

Raves for the location, the courtyard, the fresh flowers and beautiful decor. Breakfast, usually included in the price, is served in the garden. Rooms vary a fair bit in size so enquire if you’re traveling with a large group or family. Nearby bakeries should please the whole family.

Grand Hotel Francais

Reasonable prices, nice breakfasts and friendly staff make this hotel a good deal for families. Being steps from the subway makes its location away from the major tourist sites easier to accept.

Hotel des Academies et des Arts

Excellent staff, fabulous breakfasts, close to the metro. The hotel is decked out in art which will please the parents, macaroons when you arrive will please the kids. Metro stops are every way you walk and the playgrounds at the Luxembourg Gardens are just a short stroll away.

Royal Magda Etoile Hotel

A great location (near the Arc de Triomphe, the metro and a direct line to Euro Disney), fabulously clean rooms and very friendly staff make travelers rave about this hotel. Breakfast is rather plain but cafes and restaurants are in abundance out the door. Good access to the Paris airport (CDG), making this hotel good for late arrivals and early departures.

  1. What about near the Eiffel Tower? Any recommendations? I’m not wealthy so some cheap hotel choices would be appreciated.

  2. Our plans were to stay with friends but that’s fallen through. Can you suggest a cheap hotel to stay in for the coming weekend? Sorry for the last minute question.

    • Here are a couple ideas for you:

      Hotel Saint Louis
      Hotel Galileo
      Hotel Queen Mary
      Hotel Saint Jacques
      Hotel Des Marronniers

If those don’t work out. Let me know, I have a few more recommendations for you.

      • Thank you so much. We just booked at the St. Jacques. It sounds nice. I hope it is. Thanks again.

        • Cool. My wife and I stayed there on our honeymoon through Europe. It has a great location. Be sure to check out the bookstore Shakespeare and Company – just a few blocks from there towards the Seine. Have fun.

  3. Can you recommend a hotel near the louvre? Our budget is flexible, we’d like to save some money but don’t mind splurging if it’s worth it. Can you help? Thanks.

  4. Good article about excellent hotels in Paris. I know particularly Hotel Royal Magda that is an excellent choice and not only for family; single and just married couples will also enjoy it. What I like the most in this hotel is that you are treated like the most important person in the world and there is a lot of care for its customers so that your stay is as pleasant as possible.
Hotel de l’Abbaye is definitely another good choice but is much more expensive being a true 4 star hotel with 4 star hotel rates. But this hotel is an icon in Paris in terms of quality of hospitality, refinement of decoration and services. I am fan of this hotel on facebook and I have seen more than 4 000 fans now. http://www.facebook.com/hotelabbaye
Travelling to Paris with full family I have experienced also hotel de la Porte Doree; a very affordable hotel in the 12th arrondissement close to the Bois de Vincennes; it’s quite out of the center but the metro line 8 stoping in front of the hotel will get you everywhere in Paris in minutes; more kids friendly hotel in Paris, I don’t know: http://www.paris-hotels-paris.com/dotclear/index.php?post/2010/03/26/Hotel-de-la-Porte-Doree-is-kids-friendly-But-what-does-it-mean
Hotel Concortel is a nice hotel close to Madeleine and the Grands Magasins, hotel manager and his staff are always careful and thoughtful about its customers and particularly family; they have some big rooms for 3 that are perfect for small family: http://www.concortel-paris-hotel.com/
If you can afford it, I may suggest also Hotel Ares Eiffel in a very quiet street close to Ecole Militaire; it’s a 4 star hotel and they have quadruple: http://www.ares-paris-hotel.com/

  5. We’ve stayed at both the Luxembourg Parc and the Grand Hotel Francais. They’re both quite nice. It’s always a little hard to recommend good accommodations for families in Paris because – short of spending a fortune on one of the luxury hotels – there will always be a little bit left wanting. Usually more space. My best advice would be to stay near a metro stop and look extensively for online deals. (You can get some really amazing deals but you have to look hard for them and be flexible with your dates, but they’re there. Hotels seem to offer last minute discounts – even occasionally on the phone – for rooms that they’ve reserved for tour groups. Not sure how it all works to be honest.) My husband is an airline pilot and he’s always very concerned about access to CDG. I’m more concerned about montparnasse or Montmartre or some such thing. The kids like to be near one of the train stations. The subway accommodates all of this with little fuss. This year has been a great year for bargains, including Paris and all of France. Be persistent and you might well discover a gem at a reasonable price.

  6. Thanks for the tips. The Hotel Royal Magada Etoile was in fact a really good hotel. I’ve made a few search and apparently it was reward as the traveler choice 2010 Winner :) on tripadvisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187147-d228809-Reviews-Royal_Magda_Etoile_Hotel_Paris-Paris_Ile_de_France.html on 5th best hotel in Paris on explorotel http://www.explorotel.com/france/ile-de-france/paris/topview/ (with a reward as the second best staff of all Paris hotels)…

Thanks again for the tip !

    Tony

  7. I’ve been to Paris last year for a short vacation and stayed at the Grand Hotel Francais, this hotel is truly special and was definitely the best we stayed at while in Europe.

  8. Love both the Foch and Luxembourg Parc (both good value). Stayed at the Park Hyatt once on business and it’s fantastic but couldn’t afford it on the modest income of a graphic designer.

Also agree on HotelsCombined. Consistently the best prices (unless someone else is paying in which case go straight through the hotel website for the best service and amenities.)

Thanks for the great list. My favourites were booked out.

  9. Booking with Paris hotels is a pain. (Thanks for the HC recommendation, I’ll check it out.)

Yes, and the Park Hyatt is worth it, if you’ve got the money which I often don’t but that’s another story.

  10. Hi. Posted on your Barcelona page and then saw this. We’ll be in Paris for 1 week and need an affordable hotel for a family. Could you help with a suggestion or 2? Swimming pool would be great but I’ve heard they’re not common in Paris.

    • Hi Lara. I’ve just updated this article to include the hotels in Paris that have swimming pools. (Or most of them anyways.) I’d go with any of them or if price is more important just use the general search page on Hotelscombined for Paris (http://hotelscombined.com/Paris) to find the best deals.

      I hope that helps.

      Good luck.

  11. Hi David,
We are a family of 5 with three youngs kids . Hoping to spend a night and 2 days in Paris in July . Any suggestions of a good family friendly hotel ??

    Thank you

    • Hi Sloban. We just stayed at the Marriott Rive Gauche and really enjoyed it. Very good value for the money.

It’s not right in the center of things, so the sidewalks are wide and the neighborhood has a relaxed feel to it. It’s a very short walk to 2 subway stops that take you directly to the Eiffel Tower. There are a couple of good restaurants nearby that are reasonably priced and not the rip-off places you find in the Latin Quarter.

      I hope that helps.

  12. We loved staying as a family at the Le Prince Resident. It’s apartment style accommodations are great for families and the location 2 minutes from Luxemburg Gardens is great. See more here – http://www.travelingbunch.com/blog/2011/05/residence-le-prince-great-family-friendly-hotel-in-paris.html

  13. What is walking around the central district of Paris like? We are considering a few hotels in the Latin District but not sure what walking, say, over to the Louvre and back would be like? Is this doable? walkable? Or are we better to get a bus. Or better still to stay on the right bank near to the Louvre if that is our main attraction to see. The Eiffel Tower looks a long ways from the Latin Quarter. Is it hard to get to? Thanks.

    • The central areas of Paris are very walkable. All of Paris is walkable. You can easily get from the Latin Quarter over to the Louvre by foot. It’s about a 10 or 15 minute walk. You could cross the bridge at the Notre Dame and walk by the cathedral on one of your routes over the river. If you were a bit farther south and needed to take public transport then the metro (subway) is far better and easier than the buses. It’s an easy journey over to the Louvre by subway – though you would likely have to change lines to get right to the Louvre metro stop. As for getting to the Eiffel Tower it’s about 10 minutes from the Latin Quarter and might require a train switch depending where you get on. It’s nice to walk across the Seine to get a view of the tower from a distance then hop on the metro at the Passy stop. Good luck.

  14. We’ll have an afternoon and a night in Paris with 2 ten year olds. What would be your top pick for something to do? We’re staying at the Park Hyatt. Thanks.

    • The Eiffel Tower has to be at the top of the list. If it’s really cold or rainy I might say the Natural History Museum. You’re very close to the Louvre and they have a lot of kid-friendly offerings that may be perfect for the right kids. And be sure to get a crepe from a sidewalk vendor (better than a sit-down place in my opinion). The Notre Dame can be toured in 30 minutes or an hour so might be something you could squeeze in at the end of the day. Good luck.

  15. I’m planning 3 days in Paris with my husband and 6-year-old daughter. I went to school there for a year (ages ago) and am so excited to bring my family for the first time. My daughter is very excited to visit the Eiffel Tower, but other than that, I’m still figuring out our trip plan. We’ll probably follow much of your advice from your article regarding things to do in Paris with kids. Could you recommend a hotel in the $200/night range for us? We’re used to staying in Marriotts in the US, but found the Parisian Marriotts to be out of our price range (or out of the way from where we’d like to visit). I noticed that the Marriott at EuroDisney looks nice, but that would limit our Paris experience (and I’ve heard mixed reviews about Euro-Disney?)… My husband and I also entertained the idea of finding a sitter one night to try a romantic dinner, but have almost written it off as trusting a sitter in a foreign country is daunting… Anyway, any advice you may have for where to stay or what to do would be much appreciated! Thank you, I’ve enjoyed visiting your website!

    • We’ve stayed at the Paris Marriott Rive Gauche and thought it was very nice. The rooms were smallish but who spends much time in their room in Paris? The hotel is an easy metro ride to the Latin Quarter or the Eiffel Tower. I think you should be able to find it for less than $200, just don’t eat at its restaurants as they’re very pricey. (Better and cheaper ones are nearby.)

If you’re just looking for a good deal then no website beats Hotelscombined.com. It finds great discounts and you can search by nearby landmark or different search criteria (e.g. swimming pool or kitchenette).

Having a babysitter in a new city and a new hotel is pretty tricky. If you could splurge on a place like the Four Seasons then you could be sure to have a sitter that was top notch and friendly but at just a mid-range hotel I’d be hesitant.

  16. I will second that the Paris Four Seasons is amazing. Their kids’ club is fantastic. The service impeccable yet friendly.

Buy tickets in advance for the Eiffel Tower and go to the Louvre. The metro is very kid friendly (or friendly enough – as long as you don’t have a stroller, my kids are well past that.) My children loved the food too. Rich but delicious.

Paris is one of the most family friendly cities in Europe.

  17. Do you have any recommendations for a group of 8 ,
    4 adult woman and 4 girls ( 8-13) ?
would it be better in a hotel or rental? and the best location to walk to sights.
we are planning on going in July 2013 .
    thanks for your help!

    • If it’s longer than 4 or 5 days I would try to find a rental. There are some “risks” with getting a short-term rental. You’re never 100% sure whether it will all work out. It usually does and I think it’s the best option for a large group … but 2 rooms in a hotel would definitely give you less to worry about. So, I guess it depends how well you’ll deal with that little tiny bit of uncertainty.

This page should help you answer location questions: http://mylittlenomads.com/paris-hotel-faq and it has links for the best rental websites.

For large rooms (triples, quads, family rooms) I have a list here: http://samkip.com/paris

      Hope that helps,
      David

  18. I will soon be in Paris with my wife and 4 of our young kids. I have read many reviews about apartments and hotels in Paris, but just couldnt decide one. It definitely has to be comfortable for the kids and close to all attractions. We will be spending 3 nights there with a budget around usd300-400 a night. I prefer something that has laundry or washing machine. which hotels/ apartments u suggest the best for us?

    Thanks

    • The Residence Villa Daubenton is an apartment style hotel that has a great location and small kitchenettes. Some rooms also have a washing machine (but send an email before arrival requesting one). Hope that helps.
