Chiang Mai Hotels for Families

The Chedi Chiang Mai

Beautifully designed and centrally located (just across from the Night Market), The Chedi is one of Chiang Mai’s most fabled hotels. (Afternoon tea is a big event and nicely done.) Rooms are a good size with Club Suites being huge. Kids under 11 stay free. Restaurant, 3 bars, babysitting, large outdoor pool, spa, health club.

Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai

Awesome location set amid rice paddies (and close to the Maesa Elephant Camp). The Four Seasons (as usual) goes all-out for families. 30 minutes outside the city in a stunning setting gives it a very peaceful feel and free shuttle goes back and forth to central Chiang Mai. The onsite cooking school is very popular. There’s a fun kids club with an outdoor playground, themed daily events, board games, and video games. Restaurant, 2 bars, mountain bikes to borrow, nearby golf course, outdoor pool, spa, health club, tennis courts.

Yaang Come Village

The Yaang Come tries (and largely succeeds) in recreating the feel and layout of Thai village. It has a fun, open-air feel that kids love. Outdoor dining and a large pool make it especially family-friendly. Close to the night market. Family suites are larger than you’ll find at most hotels. Restaurant, bar, Jacuzzi, outdoor pool.

More Hotels for Families

Here are a few more hotels that have triples or quads that will accommodate a family or large group.

  1. Hi,

I’m thinking of travelling to Thailand in April with my 10 year old daughter. She travels really well and chose Thailand over the option of Disney world.

We know it will be quite hot and that’s not a bother for us. We plan to get flights into Bangkok, spend a couple of days there. Take a train up to Chiang mai and stay a few days with a friend then fly to Koh Samui for a week and fly back to Bangkok to fly home. 10 days in total.

Unfortunately, everyone I know seems to think that its a terrible idea and that within minutes of disembarking the plane she will be kidnapped and sold into sexual slavery!

The comments are going a long way to putting me off which is amazing consiering i’ve coped extremely well on trips to nigeria, ghana, turkey.

Is there a major saftey concern for a single mum and a 10 year old daughter in Thailand?

  2. Hi there, I’m a single mum and have been travelling the world, including Thailand, with my son, for the last three years, starting when he was aged nine.

Trafficking of women is an issue for poor girls from rural villages in Thailand, who are lured into brothels under the pretence of jobs. It’s not an issue for tourists, such as yourself, and, if you’ve coped with Ghana, Thailand will be a breeze. Thais love children and millions of tourists visit each year with minimal mishaps.

Enjoy your holiday! And, if you need any more info on single parent travel, do come and connect on my Facebook page (http://facebook.com/escapeartistes) or my site, http://escapeartistes.com.

  3. Hi Theodora,

Thanks so much for your response. I got sucked in a bit there which is silly as those who were shouting danger were not really travellers.

I’m definately going to go a head and have the holiday she dreams of!
