Bali Hotels – A Guide and FAQ

What Are The Best Websites for Booking Hotels in Bali?

Hotelscombined.com/Bali is my absolute favorite for finding great deals.

Here are specific pages for hotels around the island:

Should I Book Hotels in Advance?

During high season – which runs from July to early September and late December and early January – booking in advance is recommended. August and the week from Christmas to New Year’s Day are the absolute peak season. Easter and Chinese New Year are also busy weeks.

Outside of these peak periods you can do well in the budget category of hotel by walking from one guest house to the next enquiring about rooms and rates.

For mid-range and luxury hotels it’s almost always better to book in advance – even during the slower periods.

When Is The Best Time to Visit Bali?

The best weather is June through August. It’s both the coolest and driest. The wettest months are December through March. The hottest months are October and April.

September is a great month for its combination of fewer tourists, cheaper hotels, coolish weather, and not too much rain.

That said, even in the wet season, the rains usually fall just once a day and the sun returns shortly after. If you’re keen on saving money and seeing Bali with fewer tourists about then the low season (mid-January to early June, and mid-September to early December) is a great time to visit Bali.

What Are The Best Beaches in Bali?

Most of the best beaches in Bali are in the south and southeast of the island. Jimbaran is my favorite. Sanur is likely the best for kids. The beaches around Uluwatu are the best for surfing.

How Do I Find A Really Cheap Hotel in Bali?

I made this list of affordable (but good quality) hotels in Kuta but they’re far from the absolute cheapest.

If you’re looking for very very cheap the best way is to walk the alleys and back lanes away from the beach in Kuta. Go door to door stopping at any hotel or guesthouse you see. Outside of August and the week of Christmas and New Years, you should find some amazing deals.

What’s Included in the Hotel Rate? What’s Extra?

Many hotels will include buffet breakfast, airport transfers, and free wi-fi in the price. Be sure to ask.

There is a 21% tax added to your room rate.
